There is already a "viable option" (at least IMHO). There is a server at www.gmane.org which does mail<->news integration. It provides some authentication for member-only lists. I believe there's some spam/virus filtering done by gmane. I believe that it would probably be a viable alternative for the info-LabVIEW list. I would strongly encourge Scott to have a look at this option.
