I'd love to be able to capture images from the QX3 without going through the supplied 
software - apart from being unamenable to automation it resets my monitor refresh rate 
to 60 Hz when it exits, which is a pain. What did you find as open source, where, and 
why wasn't it adequate? Google only found me a driver for Mac OS X - I wish I did want 
that one, but unfortunately I need it for Windows 2000 ;-)

Can you elaborate please George? Do you mean that your G Toolbox can do this? By 'snap 
images' do you mean you know a way of capturing images directly from the camera?
