Generally this is indicative of a faulty serial driver from your serial
hardware provider. That's neither a blanket indictment of third-party
serial drivers nor a claim that NI-VISA is completely free of such bugs.
But we've actually seen more than a few such crashes with third-party
serial drivers (especially USB-Serial drivers) that have been fixed when
the respective parties update their drivers. You might want to check for
driver updates from your USB-Serial provider first.

Dear wireworkers
I want to use a USB <-> serial interface.
Well,- the one that I use works absolutly
fine until I try to use VISA close or quit
my LV program.
Config:
LV 6.1
VISA 3.0...
ATEN USB <-> serial
Windows XP Pro.
Any ideas? suggestions?
