Do you use the VISA Clear or similar function by any changes? I think this
does reset the entire port under VISA for serial ports (actually the real
cause of a problem on this list lately) which will put it back into the
default (e.g. OS) settings.

Other than that I have never encountered setting those serial port
properties not working the way they should as long as the port I was
trying to configure was actually present in the system ;-)
