There are a lot of people I see on Reddit who are so obviously trying to
snark/troll for pleasure and kicks and I'm like, speaking from experience,
you're going to wake up five, ten years from now and wish you had spent
your time doing something productive.
The only upside I got out of it is that I can navigate sites that have a
reputation for trolling like Reddit with a lot less angst than some of my
friends because I know exactly what's going through these people's heads. It
really takes the power from them-and sometimes it's really actually comical
(I learned last night, for example, that people are using terms we made up in
2007 or 2008 and acting like they're insanely edgy and intelligent. Kids,
there's nothing new under the sun. Try again.)
[Also apparently I'm on the older side of average for age on Reddit. I can
actually use the word 'kid' and it's actually pretty accurate-and makes some
of the attacks even more comical. Like, I know you're probably a 19 year
old college freshman giggling to yourself in a dorm. Go to the dining hall
before it closes. Nothing against college kids, but the mental imagery doesn't
make you all that threatening.]
