Dear Laptop testing team.

I have tried the Ubuntu 7.1 Gutsy Gibbon as live CD and I immediately
encountered a device problem.
The Monitor.
What occurred is:

a) Live CD loads after choosing EITHER option 1. start or install
option 2. start with safe graphic mode
b) Ubuntu loading screen comes up ok.
c) sound turns on ok, i hear the testing music
d) screen flickers goes blank, and on;
safe mode, goes all white, and never comes back
normal mode, black with some noisy sprites clattering the screen. Also never
comes back.
I am able to only hit the off key, which interrupts linux and it then tells
me i have hit the off key, and is shutting down.

Hardware details:

Location: on NVIDIA GeForce4 420 Go (Toshiba)

This email is not strictly a cry for help, but to let you guys know
something that didn't work, so that others in the future may have a smoother
ride. However, I am one of those newbies to linux, and would like to know
anything that you may know which can help my transition from the windows
world. However, I am also aware (from having tried it out) that Puppy linux
got the thing working right, and while also was not able to auto-detect my
monitor, at least gave me the option to choose one myself, using a low res
graphical screen. This of course was a very good idea, and does not leave me
needing to be just that bit more of a linux expert enough to know how to
choose to start linux without X running, configure X manually, and restart
it.

However, from what I have seen if Ubuntu so far (from running from VMWare) I
think it is generally looking good. Keep up the good work team!

Kind Regards,

Sean van Buggenum
