Hi Jesper, *, Typographically speaking, ’ *is* the correct character. The use of so-called straight or typewriter apostrophes (and quotes) in computing is basically restricting oneself to a limitation that is no longer justified in Unicode-age. So in my view, the changing should ultimately go the other way: ' → ’ (or ‘ where needed), and " → “”.
However, I agree that use of ’ vs. ' should be consistent in the UI. This means that until there is no concensus on or at least majority support for replacing all typewriter quotes with typographically correct symbols, the old symbol should be used for the sake of consistency.
