My thoughts:

An earlier version of KX-TD1232 / KX-TVS2xx was so effective at CNG
detection that a wretched FAX-spammer that was war dialing all of the
business exchanges in the area found ALL 8 POTS lines connected to
the system. The system detected the CNG and transferred the call to
the extension group assigned to the two fax machines. Since there
were two fax machines, the business received 8 copies of the fax in
short order.

My suggestion:

1. Create a extension group for the fax machine(s) and/or
computers that receive faxes.
2. Create a transfer button on each telephone to allow transfer
to the fax extension group.
3. Configure the KTS and VPS as necessary to transfer to the fax
extension group when noone is around.
4. Let automation do what it needs. If you wish, have the second
line answered by AA on the VPS.
5. If someone answers a line that has a fax CNG tone, transfer
it to the fax extension group. Otherwise, hang up and let the fax
retry do it automatically the second time.

Best regards,

OK; the next stage...

We use a 'ringmaster' number and a distinctive ring cadence
detector to send fax calls to the fax. It's upstream of
trunk 2 entering the KXTA.

BUT, the KXTA picks up that line BEFORE the detector decides.

So options are:

a) Delay TVA50 pickup of that line until detector has had its shot.
Doing so on trunk 2 only was a minor plus; it's a 2-body office
and outside human could tell inside human was on the phone since
VM didn't pick up on first ring. They'd hang up iffen they wanted
the person not her VM.

b) Give up on ringbastard [It's like $8.00 a month here in Verizontaland]
and depend on Panasonic's CNG detection.

What's the list's advice?

To do b) I must force fax to use ONLY trunk 2. [why? below] I know
where such a table for outgoing CO vs Stations was on KXTD-1232;
can I assume there's one on the KXTA as well? {I am not in front of
the system as I write this; & the Fine Manuals are there as well..}

(With the fax on a KXTA station port; I want it to dial out on
the same trunk listed as the "fax number" -- that way, calling
fax machines should NOT skunked by the AA answering & finding
the fax station busy.)
