My spouse's business tried to use several book-keeping packages with great frustration. Quickbooks Pro has more features than most people will ever need, including costing and invoicing. And QuickBooks Pro works on MacOS X too! (in case you are thinking of converting).

The only other thing that I would consider would be:

an "open" package/template that layers on top of your favorite database (say FileMaker, Sybase, OpenSQL, MySQL, SQL Server, Oracle, or God forbid Access)
a package highly focused on your business. Be prepared to pay for implementation, support, and to change your business to fit the software.

BTW: I strongly recommend that you do not capitalize the software (subject to IRS depreciation) but expense it instead. Since IRS regulations require depreciation is used for assets "of significant value that have an expected life greater than one year", and most software has an ACTUAL life of less than one year (company goes out of business or requires an upgrade), this is a reasonable position. The worst case for most businesses would be to section 179 expense the software.

Morning all,

Just curious what the small interconnects on the list (like me) are using for an invoicing program.

Time to replace the 15 year old NEBS one I am currently using. I would like it to "autocapture" and add to the data base new addresses, materials, etc. and be able to export data to other MS programs.

Pretty basic I know, just looking for some help through the maze of available products.

Thanks in advance,
Jim
