Doug,

You have discovered the feature called "background music".

If you have a radio for Music on Hold connected to the system, you can
listen to it through the phone by pressing the digit "1".
If you have nothing connected to the MOH jack, then you will hear a hiss if
you turn on the "background music" feature (or if you bump the digit "1").

There may be a way to disable the MOH in the ksu, but barring that you can
just press 1 to toggle the feature on or off (or add music, then people will
realize when they have turned it on).

Charles

Subject: KX-T: KXTA-624 phone extension hissing

Extensions are hissing with phone on hook. (like there is an open mike to
the phone). KSU has been replaced with same problem showing up on different
extensions. This condition can be replicated by pressing a non-used line (4
and above). Extensions that hiss will vary. Incomming lines were removed
to eliminate them-same problem exists.
