Hello Mark:

Disclaimer: the following comments arise from my experience is with KXTD-1232-2/-4 and KX-TVS200.

I recall that there is a station (extension) programming option that causes the phones to automatically answer a ringing line and/or intercom call. I believe that this is set for feature phones only, on a station (extension) basis. Many of the station features can be changed by key presses in intercom mode. Maybe you have several nearby "lucky" area codes or exchange codes that change features if (when) 9 (or 81, 82, etc.) is not first pressed. In this part of the country, we have fun with 450 and 451.

I do not have my manuals nearby (and it would likely be different for a KX-TA), but maybe this will help you poke around in the manuals.

BTW: When is Panasonic going to release the manual set in PDF (or HTML) form on CD! God forbid that people would figure out how to make their Panasonic phone systems more useful than those from the competition and buy more Panasonic systems.

Good luck!

Subject: KX-T: Can Anyone Get to the Bottom of This?
Date: Tue, 18 Mar 2003 17:48:23 -0500

Hi All!

I have a KX-TA624 that's exhibiting some very odd behavior, and I'm
wondering if anyone has ever run into this...

For the most part, the system appears to work fine. But every now and then
when an incoming call comes in, one of the system phones automatically
"receives" the call as if it had gone off-hook. When I say "receives," I
mean that the extensions stop ringing and the CO is connected to the
extension. The problem is that no one has picked up the extension or
pressed the SP-PHONE button when this occurs.

The DSS button for the extension that picked up the call shows that it's in
use. If someone picks up the handset of the extension before the caller
hangs up, then they can talk as if the call had been picked up normally. If
the caller hangs up (because no one is on the line), then the extension will
still show that it's in use, although the CO line is released. (The
intercom light remains on as well in that case.)

When a phone gets into this state, it can be reset by going off-hook and
hanging up. When you go off-hook, you immediately hear the tone that the
system generates when the intercom is left off-hook too long. Phones can go
into this state even if other extensions are already in this state. It also
occurs when the incoming call is coming from the door opener card rather
than the CO line.

The problem occurs on several phones within the system. It seems to happen
more frequently on some extensions than others, but it has happened on
almost all of them. One other thing I've noticed is that every now and then
I hear clicking (or rolling) when I answer a phone while other extensions
are still ringing.

Now that you know the problem, let me tell you what I've done to resolve it.
I systemmatically swapped out each phone, but the problem did not go away.
I also checked all the wiring for shorts and found nothing. Any ideas about
what could be going on or what to try next?

Thanks,
Mark
