For computer equipment (used and new), if you're near NJ, then you might
want to go to the Trenton Computer Festival (TCF). (www.tcf-nj.org) It's
one of the largest computer shows, but it has a very large outdoor "flea
market" section. This year it's on Sat & Sun, May 4th & 5th, and it's held
in Edison, NJ. You should be able to find just about anything computer or
electronic related. There's lots of junk there, but you can find some great
deals. It's the only computer show I bother to go to, although I don't go
every year. Unlike typical computer shows with vendors selling new computer
equipment, the flea market section is cheap to get a spot, so there are
literally hundreds of people selling their old parts, equipment, junk, etc.
Even though it's mostly computer related, I always see some tools and
telecom equip.

FYI, 3 years ago I took a spot at TCF and got rid of a truck full of old
parts and junk that was wasting space at my offices. Why someone would buy
old 720K diskettes I will never know, but I did come home with a LOT more
money than I expected. In fact, this year I'm planning another trip to sell
more old equipment and parts, including a complete AT&T Spirit System. Be
warned though, this show is a "geek festival", fill with lots of unusual
people (always good for a laugh). As for the best deal I ever got at
TCF...years ago I bought an Altair 8800 (basically, the first microcomputer,
released in 1975) for $250. These are now selling on eBay for as much as
$3000 or more.

Ian Goldstein
