Be aware this does not entirely protect you from charges! There are companies using 800 numbers that can still charge your telephone bill. They typically sell internet or paging service billed monthly to your phone number.
A customer/employee/visitor uses your phone to call one of these numbers. They subscribe to a service and request it be billed to this (my) number. They are then passed to "verification" where they are recorded saying their name, this is their number, and they have authority to bill to this number. We offer to periodically check customer billing, helping them find these charges. After we show them what to look for (the last few pages of the bill is where these pop up) they can then call us if they find charges that look questionable. When we find one, we walk the customer thru the call to the billing agency, where they will pull the recording, and ask if that is an employee. We have had little problem getting the billing stopped, and refunded. But, if you have a problem, the local dial tone providers will backcharge the billing agency, generally, without question and fast. (but don't expect any help a SECOND time, or months after the charges started) We had a new install recently where we offered to check the bills. We found 3 billings totaling $165 each month for the previous 3 months. Accounting thought is was just more long distance charges. Amazingly, the billing agencies refunded the previous months too. We have a customer for life! And they bought some display phones with the refund... It was a customer/visitor, used the name "James Brown" ;-) The visitor phone COS now blocks all 0xxx and 1xxx. (Toll free call - ask a salesman to dial the call) -larry > By simple he means > can not dial any toll calls but 800, 888 etc are ok. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
