** Description changed:

  In the ‘System Settings’ applet, I select the ‘Sound’ group, then
  ‘Display & Monitor’ and return to the ‘Sound’ group. - this causes the
  applet to temporarily freeze and finally terminate.  No error message
  appears.

+ I see that I think selecting any group of options after selecting the ‘Sound’ 
group and returning to ‘Sound’ closes the applet.
