Public bug reported:

When I log in to either x11 or Wayland I get the splash screen with
spinning gear for awhile, then an error telling me that ksmserver has
crashed with a segmentation fault, leaving only a crash dialog and a
black screen. This was happening on kubuntu 22.04, and I had switched to
other desktops to get around it, but it continued when I was finally
able to upgrade to 24.04.1 this morning. As I was trying to find
something to report in the crash dialog the desktop finally appeared,
and seemed to be working - it seems that if I wait long enough
eventually the desktop loads (clicking on "restart" in the crash report
doesn't seem to matter).

This started seemingly spontaneously - I don't recall having done
anything new that might have caused it, just started having trouble
logging in one day.

I'm now running kubuntu 24.04.1, which uses 4:5.27.11-0ubuntu4, but it
started with kubuntu 22.04.4, which uses Plasma 5.24

I don't think this is a very good bug report, but I'm not sure where to
look for better information - if there's anything else I can do to
provide you more useful information please let me know.

Thanks!
