I have the same problem: Slamd64 (Slackware 64) Kernel: 2.6.17-rc5 ATI onboard: Radeon XPRESS 200
I tried in KDE and Fluxbox with same results. If I use "xine" (or any other software that require acceleration) 100% of the times it will hang when exiting or switching to other console. I also noticed that my webcam (using spca5xx module) is now hanging after I installed ATI driver.
