Commenting just to say that the problem appeared on Ubuntu as well but only when I used KDE apps like amaroK and Kopete. However when I updated the video drivers with the proprietary Nvidia ones the problem dissapeared so I would think it is a bug with the nv driver and the Nvidia 6600 GT AGP (I am also using it on a 4x AGP slot although I don't know if that has anything to do with it)
