And I should have mentioned that with N56ML, the ailerons were also balanced, but my ailerons were not per the plans....they are hinged in a completely different manner, with a lead-filled 4130 tube in the nose of the aileron, forward of the pivot point, and carefully balanced before installation. And of course, rudder and elevator were not "per plans" either!

On the FreeBird front, just in the last few weeks we've been working the optional nose gear design, which will borrow heavily from what Robert Pesak did on his KR2S.  See http://www.krnet.org/krs/rpesak/ for more details on that.  It's a very simple welded up pivot structure, with no crazy tubing bender required, and far less likely to fail that the previous incarnation, plus it has some damping.
