The key here is to have a simple secondary latch or catch should the primary latch either fail, or in my case, I forget to latch it. My RV has a simple handle at the back of the canopy frame that I rotate 90 degrees when I close the canopy. When rotated 90 degrees, the handle overlaps the bottom of the turtle deck frame and acts as a safety should I fail to lock the primary canopy latch, which has happened a few times.
