In theory, if you have a fuel with gas/ethanol and add water to it, then run it through a strainer specifically designed to separate water from fuel, you will remove the ethanol as well...

That answers my question.  I've used a funnel for years to filter waste 100LL and it never fails to separate the water / trash.  I tested it when new by placing it under the kitchen facet and running it full of water.  Not a single dropped passed through. I have fiberglass tanks so I need to insure 100% alcohol free fuel. It's getting hard to find here in the corn belt of Illinois as Mark's web site indicates.  One station in the area "claims" alcohol free and a marina some 20 miles distant claims alcohol free also.  Problem is I've gone to name brand stations in the past, paid more for gas "claimed" alcohol free and when tested it contains alcohol.  The fact that it takes more energy to produce a gallon of alcohol than you get back out of it and it simply removes food from the table dampens my opinion on the validity of the environmental benefits anyway not to mention it destroying equipment not designed to use it.  My low compression 0-200 runs great on auto fuel but retrieving it from the cow pasture is not worth the cost savings.  Because of that I've not run auto fuel for 10+ years now.  I ran it in the Tripacer and KR 90% of the time back when you could trust the fuel but, as suggested, it's probably not worth the effort.
