An abbreviated list of modifications to create a "new generation" KR-like airplane from KR2S plans is below, for those who are building and wonder what changes have become the "standard" for the newest generation of KRs such as Mike Sylvester's, Robert Pesak, Roger Baalman, Chris Pryce, and others. I will post this list of modifications, plus additions as they occur to me, on my site later, but these alone will get you very close to "state of the art". If folks haven't looked at every link to builders' sites on www.krnet.org, that's another great place to get started, as well as my site at www.n56ml.com . Yes, I know there are some bad links at krnet.org that need weeding out. Maybe I'll cull them out shortly.

Proven construction modifications above and beyond the KR2S plans are:

Add another 14" fuselage "bay" aft to the KR2S drawings (2 bays more than KR2 plans call for). Far simpler than it sounds.

Widen fuselage at the pilot's shoulders to about 36" (bend sides slowly, over time, widening bottom same amount.

Use new airfoil for wings and tail surfaces (see http://www.krnet.org/as504x/ )

Lengthen vertical stabilizer and rudder 6"

Lengthen horizontal stabilizer maybe 3" inches each side

Dragonfly canopy (lighter, and fits widened fuselage better)

Use "belly board" - simple and quick to install, or better yet, build "real" flaps in stub wings (but more complicated)

Wing tanks rather than header tank, to keep the CG less "volatile"

O-200, Corvair, or other similar size/weight engines, for more power.

Again, see builders' sites on www.krnet.org, and my KR2S site at www.n56ml.com . A next generation KR-like aircraft can be built now, it just requires a set of KR2S plans (a notebook) and drawings (several large ones, covering both KR2 and KR2S (the "hodgepodge).
