I take it that ground adjustable props can be an option to having several props
for different missions, but do you guys that have them, actually adjust them
that often? I would think one could have a lot of fixed props for the price of
a single adjustable. And you would always have a spare if one gets dinged.

One of the guys at my airport put an inflight adjustable prop on a Jabiru in
his Pulsar. (I think it's mechanical, not electric or hydraulic) He said
there weren't very many of them around. He notes that it really improved the
climb, and that slowing down in the air or on the ground was much faster. But,
not much change in overall top speed.

Also related to propellors: some RV owners were talking about wood vs metal
props for their planes, and mostly agreed that flying much in rain would
quickly shorten the life of a wood prop, and that only metal should be flown
into anything but light showers (continuous rain). Composite props never were
mentioned, though. Most RV owners around me have constant speed props. One
not in that discussion used to claim that he just had a larger displacement
engine with a fixed pitch aluminum prop. He usually flew at 55-70% power,
claiming that his fuel burn approximated the smaller engines, but he had lots
more horses available if needed.
