Just to clear up the issue as to why I went to a new transponder rather than
using my existing Garmin 320 and an EchoUAT coupled to a uAvionix skyFYX WAAS
GPS for 2020 compliance is that the Garmin is too long to fit into my panel and
clear the main fuel tank.
I could have used any small footprint transponder like the Trig or Microair,
however, they were cost-prohibitive until I found the TQ Aviation KTX2
transponder which provided ADSB out compliance without additional boxes. It
only required a WASS compliant GPS antenna/receiver which the SkyFYX provides
through its serial out port. This GPS antenna also drives my AvMap GPS receiver
which provides guidance to my autopilot.
In the final analysis, the situation is this... I live under Bravo airspace and
I cannot move an inch without the FAA giving me dirty looks. The Dallas
airspace is cursed with the FAA hovering over us. I have to comply or stay on
the ground...
