Here is a drawing I made this morning to solve a "non-problem" I
experienced. The rudder bar weld broke on my KR last week. Supposedly this
isn't a problem but I'm fixing it anyway.

Actually, it is a "potential" problem that I cautioned about several years ago.  My right side pilot pedal broke sever years ago when I landed at Langford's place.  Fortunately it broke on the ramp in a turn-around and not on landing.  My pedals are top mounted but the problem is related to all "Rand" pedal setup, top or bottom mount.  The right pilot pedal goes across to the right side where the rudder cable attaches.  Any pressure applied to the pedal (tail draggers are really the only concern as tail wheel forces are added over and above rudder forces) causes both welds on the pedal assembly to flex.  After 500 or so hours mine broke at the first vertical weld above the foot pad.  Mark and I removed the assembly and he patched it to get me home.  I then had gussets welded in to strengthen the assembly.  In the following photo the weld that broke is seen in the upper center and is light gray from painting after the fix.  You can see the gusset added.  For anyone still building or others that can remove the assemblies without a great deal of hassle I'd suggest a gusset for all 90 degree welds.

For John, did you find a suitable tail spring?  I looked at a golf cart again the other day and they look like they had the KR in mind when they designed the springs.
