15+ years ago I made my own vented fuel caps.

A barb fitting extends up through the cap and is covered with a plastic / fiberglass top.  The wire removable handle is used to open the caps.

They got to looking pretty ragged over the years and the holes started to enlarge and rip open.

Today I placed thin metal washers over the holes and covered with a layer of glass.  I went back to the hangar this evening and sanded and painted them.

They won't win any finishing awards but they are functional again.  I think the embedded washer will help these last longer than 15 years.
