I have pulled the prop hub by using a puller and applying some decent
pressure then smacking the end of the puller shaft with a hammer. It has
never caused any damage and the prop hub pops pops right off. I did this a
number of times when setting up the engine I am currently using. I also used
a steel insert against the crankshaft to avoid damage to the end of the end
of the crank.

I'm going to have to replace the two seals on my Great Plains Force One
bearing, since the oil fog on my canopy has significantly worsened over
the last few flights. I usually disassemble the engine for other
reasons first and simply press the hub off the crankshaft, but since
it's running so well, and has no other oil leaks, I'm thinking of simply
pulling the hub off to replace the seals. I have several pullers, and
am sure at least one of them would be a decent fit, and suspect that
after loosening the bolt and putting some tension on the hub and then
tapping the hub it will come off, but am concerned about bending the
crank or the damaging to the surrounding bearing. I'm sure some folks
have done this before, and would appreciate some feedback or helpful tips.
Also, I spoke to Steve Bennett about the oil leaking at the bearing a
couple of years ago, and he had a method of draining the bearing housing
between the seals (I believe it was) into a pathway drilled into the
engine case drained with a tiny brass fitting and tube to vent it over
board. Has anybody else done this and can you provide details on the
process?
