Yep, but we all know the explanation....KR builders are usually building KRs because they can be built on a budget, and we are a pretty "tight" group of people. Although I'd planned on building one shortly after it made the cover of Popular Mechanix in the early seventies. I couldn't afford it while in the Air Force, certainly not while going to school, but once I had a steady job, I set up an automatic $100/month deposit into a special "fuselage fund" (and that's still what we call it today). After a year, I had enough to buy the Spruce kit and start building the plane. By the time the fuselage was built, I had enough in the account to build the wings, and on, and on, and on....until ~11 years later, when I had a pretty nice little airplane! I'm pretty sure I spent over $20k on my effort, but a lot of that was building a lot of the parts 2-3 times, trying to get it right, buying instruments and electronics new (rather than used), and extravagant expenses on an optimized Corvair engine.

If I'd had $17,000 (in 1970's money), I may have bought a flying KR and 20,000 hours on KRs now, rather than only 1730 hours!

Yes, Jeff's plane is the ultimate no-brainer for us KR builders, but his plane will probably be bought by somebody outside the KR community, because it is such a great bargain for those who can afford it. And when that happens, we should reach out to them and welcome them to the fold so we can enjoy Jeff's awesome airplane at Gatherings for decades to come....
