Mike,
I display the echoUAT data on a $130 (used) Android Google Nexus 7 (2013
or later is better/brighter). That's one of the brightest used tablets,
and it's plenty visible in direct sunlight, even with my dark polarized
sunglasses (don't get me started on how Costco assured me they wouldn't
be polarized, but turns out they are....). They're down to about
$70-90 for the 16G unit. 16G works fine for just running iFlyGPS, since
that's all I use it for. Honestly, I don't even know how much memory
space is left over.....and it's not here to check it. It works great,
and automatically connects via wi-fi to the iFlyGPS software when I
start it up. See link below for an example from ebay.

.
I'll never buy another dedicated unit that's not an easily replaceable
tablet. The cost difference is huge, and cheap tablets can be replaced
almost overnight, unlike my MGL iEFIS, which might require a trip to
South Africa for repair! I've nothing but good stuff about Navare, and
it's free. I can't complain about iFlyGPS....very intuitive, and for
$80 per year I can run it on the tablet and three other mobile devices.
I use my phone as a backup for the tablet. So with ADS-B data from
the echoUAT, I get nexrad weather, traffic, airport AWOS info, and all
that good stuff. I highly recommend the tablet route. I've managed to
overheat mine once or twice when parked out in the hot summer sun
directly on it, but it's not nearly as sensitive to heat as an iPad.
Now I'm smart enough to face the plane to it's not in direct sunlight,
and no problems since. The echoUAT should be compatible with the
echoUAT. I'm sure folks on the list are using that combo.
