The alcohol in auto fuel dissolved the West System epoxy resin in my KR-2 fuel
tanks in the outer wings; started to leak minutes before the first flight. I
replaced the fiberglass with welded aluminum tanks. No further problems with
fuel.
I later discovered that alcohol with 6 percent water makes an excellent solvent
for cured epoxy. The water would come from humidity in the air mixing with the
alcohol in the vented fuel tanks.
