I was doing some cleaning up in the basement tonight and ran across
where I weighed the 2180cc VW engine that's now powering N891JF. See
enclosed photo for what's included, plus the Diehl case, generator,
intakes, prop hub, 4 into 1 exhaust, Ellison throttle body. It's all
included in the 178 pounds. This is everything needed for the engine to
fly....except fuel in the fuel line and electrons in the wires.....oh,
and apparently the spark plug wires, which are maybe a pound and a half.
Call it 180 to make it easy to remember.
And while I'm on the subject, I did the same thing with my Corvair
engine, with exactly the same degree of completeness (I have that on one
of my Corvair websites), was 231 pounds, a delta of 55 pounds. 55
pounds isn't a bad trade for 37 more horsepower, which explains why the
climb rate of the 6-cylinder big bore Corvair is such an amazing
improvement over a VW....
