I think you do want to buy the kit from Aircraft Spruce. It doesn't come precut to lengths....you cut something like 12 footers into smaller pieces to make all the crossmembers, etcc. You'll need a little more 5/8" spruce to widen it, but if you plan all of your cuts ahead of time, you probably wouldn't even need it. But really, a bit of 5/8"x5/8" and some wider firewall cross member material will probably get you there. To be safe you could call and ascertain the size of the firewall plywood, and see if it will meet your plans. You'd want to just order it all at once, rather than pay shipping several times. And they could throw it in with the rest.

Take the plunge and get on with it!
