Yes, the weather has been nice in the south. I've been flying the wings off both planes for the last 3 weeks. Got in the new uAvionix Echo-UAT ADS-B unit with the SYYFX GPS receiver and installed into the KR. It appears to work fine, but with the poor radar coverage where I live, the transponder doesn't get interrogated often enough to keep the squawk and pressure altitude updated on the ADS-B unit. Consequently, it fails for Pressure Altitude on the FAA PAPR (ADS-B Performance Report). It would pass if I lived somewhere with better radar coverage. However, I can also wire it directly to my Sandia Aerospace STX-165 Transponder so it always has updated squawk and Pressure Altitude, so that will permanently address that issue. I moved the Skyguard ADS-B Unit from the KR to the SuperCub to replace the Skyguard unit I had in the SuperCub that seemed to be struggling. I spent quite a bit of time flight testing, adjusting, flight testing, adjusting, etc, so have probably flown 10 - 15 hours in the last few weeks split between both planes. It's been fun knocking the rust off and getting to know the planes again.
I also did a uAvionix Tailbeacon installation on a Cessna Cardinal. It also had issues with the poor local radar coverage causing it to fail "Mode 3A" on the FAA PAPR. The solution was to fly to an airport that has good radar coverage (Springfield, MO) and perform the flight test there. It scored 100% passing when flying in an area where the radar coverage was good. That made for a good excuse for me to fly the KR over into the class C airport and demonstrate for all to hear on the radio just how rusty I am in dealing with ATC. Actually, embarrassingly rusty and ended up just being pleased to leave without getting gigged by the FAA. I made up some briefing cards/checklists for myself and will go practice flying in and out of controlled airspace more often to knock the rust off and polish up my skills a bit. Wish I could go help my son with his place as well. Unfortunately, he's about 2000 miles away, which makes for a bit of a challenge to spend time working with him. Makes me feel bad as that's what Dad's are supposed to do. -Jeff Scott North Arkansas ----------------- > Sent: Sunday, November 10, 2019 at 8:00 AM > From: "Mike Sylvester via KRnet" <krnet@list.krnet.org> > To: KRnet <krnet@list.krnet.org> > Cc: "Mike Sylvester" <shagste...@hotmail.com> > Subject: KR> Very quiet. > > KR Guys, It's very quiet on the net so I'll shoot out an update.
