I know I may regret this later on, especially after I’ve really gotten into the KR2S community so recently, but due to a fairly surprising financial situation, I must sell the old bird and truly do what’s right for my family.
If you call or PM me, I can give you pretty much the entire history of the plane, and as much detail as you want (sky is seriously the limit), but for now I’ll try to keep it somewhat brief, but honest as well. N6399U (google for pictures) - Pretty much a 100% plans built KR2S. PM me for more if needed. Total Time Airframe/Engine: just under 500 hours (will get the exact time next time I’m up at the hangar). Revmaster 2100D - Older 65 HP version. Bone stock except for MOFOCO 041 heads and auto-plugs conversion. 041 heads are very similar to Great Plains, in which you do NOT have to remove the entire valve train to get to the lower plugs. I’ve been running autolite plugs for $2 a piece, and they work perfectly. The oil has been changed religiously every 25 hours, as well as adjusting the valves every 25 hours as well since I have owner her for 18 months. She runs beautifully and puts out a realistic 70 HP with the new heads. Engine was rebuilt with a new magnesium case around ~250 hours in 2014, and since then has had almost another 250 hours. The engine leaks a tiny, TINY amount of oil (I’m talking like two-three drops after a flight when the oil is hot) after sitting overnight. Magneto - Bendix Dual 3000 unit. Just under 500 hours (will get the exact time next time I’m up at the hangar). New wiring harness installed this past summer for auto-plugs. Unit works perfectly. It has not had a 500 hour magneto inspection, however. Wings - RAF48 airfoil - right wing is just about perfect. Left wing has a little bit of mal-shaping on the under-side near the thicker end of the wing. Is visible to the eye, but is by no means critical. Do not let this scare you however; The wing is very sturdy to the touch and I have almost 200 hours in this plane and the wing has held up fine. Wing tip all in one LEDS (NAV/Position/Strobe) - can be flown at night, but has no landing light. Bendix Transponder - No ADSB for now. Comm Radio - handheld device installed after original MK radio failed during flight. Handheld device works beautifully. Can reach CTAF frequencies from at least 40-50 NM out. Includes intercom - portable unit (forget the name of the manufacturer, but works well enough for me and my wife). Empty Weight - placard says 636, but realistically it’s around ~650 lbs. gross 1150 lbs. useful load 500 lbs. I have had myself (just under 200 lbs), my wife (~150 lbs), full fuel (12 gallons, 72 lbs), and about 35 lbs of luggage on a hot day (95F) and still was able to climb out about 300-400 fpm. Performance: Takeoff Distance: ~1000 feet to 80 mph then rotate at Gross. Haven’t gotten an accurate landing distance but have landed on a 2500’ paved strip before. Cruise: 110-113 knots depending on if clean (washed, waxed, etc) or not. Speed includes wheel pants. Fuel Burn: average about 4.5 gallons/hour after taxi, climb, cruise, and descent on an XC. Can comfortably go 180-200 NM (assuming little to no head wind) on a full tank of gas. Climb: solo on a cool day (PNW weather), you will get 700-900 fpm. On a hot day (southern hot, with high humidity) near gross, you will get ~300-400. Ceiling: capable of getting up to 10000 MSL on a hot (90F) day and still had a little excess power. I have not tested the maximum ceiling. Flying Characteristics: definitely is a little nose heavy (original owner was much heavier than me so he built the CG near the forward end), and if you’re less than 200 lbs you will need full up trim as well as a little back stick to maintain altitude. The CG is very forward, and the trim tab needs a little tweaking. With a passenger and/or luggage, the plane is much more balanced and will just about maintain altitude with no stick pressure. It does however bank slightly to the left with no stick pressure, a possible consequence of the battery and pilot both being on the left side. In general though, the plane will climb up to altitude, cruises very nicely, and is a pleasure to fly. Prop/Spinner: Sterba 54 x 54”, spinner type unknown but is slightly damaged. Has a small chip near one of the screw holes, causing the unit to be a little bit out of balance. That said, there are no serious vibrations, and the spinner safely flew me (literally) across the country when I moved from MS to WA. You can operate the plane without the spinner and it will be a hair smoother, but you will lose ~1-2 knots in cruise. Engine Instruments: CHT gauge does not work at the moment, but when it did with stock Revmaster heads, the CHTs never got over 400F, even on a hot day while climbing. Someone more mechanical than me could fix the CHT in probably an hour, just need to machine a small hole in one of the cylinder heads. Oil pressure, Temperature, RPM and Voltage, and voltage all work well. Sometimes the oil temperature will squirrel around during takeoff, but only once in a long while. During cruise it works perfect. Airframe: paint is very good as a whole, however there are a couple spots (right wing leading edge, and left wing underside) where I had to touch up some paint. It does not clearly stand out unless you really get up close and personal. There is almost fiberglass damage except for a few VERY small cracks near the vertical & horizontal stabilizers from normal wear and tear. Just had a condition inspection last Summer (July I believe, possibly June, will check logbooks). She passed with flying colors (no pun intended). Price: After all is said and done, I do feel that $14000 is a fair price. That said, I am open to offers. Email me personally and I can send you a ton of pictures/videos, but I will not be available until after 7pm EST tonight. The plane will eventually be on barnstormers, but I wanted to give you all first dibs if interested. Located in Oak Harbor Washington (Whidbey Island, WA). About 2 hours north of Seattle. If you are further away, but interested, I can always coordinate a FaceTime/Skype session if interested. Thanks for reading; I apologize for not keeping it super brief, but I wanted to be as honest and detailed as possible. I have no doubt that this plane is safe, and that it will provide a new owner lots of enjoyment and passion. Call me at (304) 276-2756 if interested, or reply/PM works as well.
