I have one of the fit based 110hp vikings on my Zenair 701 and it performs as
advertised. I went with it because it is the same fit engine we use in our
formula race cars (spinning to much higher rpm) and I got a decent deal on it
used.

Big difference with the 90 hp engine is that it is based of the Mitsubishi
mirage 1.2L 3 cyl- this is not a honda motor. Viking is rating it at slightly
more than the car version but I have no doubt that output is achievable when
one disregards emissions.

Overall I don't think viking is exceptional, but probably as good an auto
engine conversion as any out there.

One thing that you would want to dig into is whether the height of the 90hp
viking works for you- it is tall but not very wide.

Subject: KR> Interesting engine for sale

Anybody know anything about these engines, or whether they’d be a good fit for
a KR?

I looked up the Viking Engines website and on one hand, the performance seem
decent, but on the other I’d be on edge running a little Honda engine at
4000-5000 RPM for the duration of an entire flight. That just doesn’t seem like
a task that the little Honda Fit engine was once designed for.

I am also having a hard time picturing their 90 HP engine only weighing 159 lbs
(listed on their website). After adding a radiator & coolant, fuel injection
system, computer, and reduction gearbox, that figure seems awfully light for
such a high powered motor. The 130 HP model seems a little reasonable, at 220
lbs, about the same as a Corvair. Could this be the weight of just the engine
without the above attachments?
