I haven't posted a lot on the subject, but back in April 2019 I replaced my
stock heads due to a crack between the valves (typical VW crack). After a
lot of research and consideration, I decided on the MOFOCO 041 heads. I
was mainly attracted by how there is still a bit of meat between the
valves: The intake valve is larger at 39 mm, but the exhaust valve remains
32mm.

After ~50 hours, I am very pleased with the results. Three oil changes,
and four valve adjustments later (Installation, 5 hours, 25 hours, and 50
hours), the valves haven't moved very much, hardly at all in fact.
Generally about 5 of them don't even need touched, and the remaining 3 are
so minimal that you could almost get away with leaving them alone. This is
in contrast to my stock Revmaster heads that needed a decent amount of
valve adjusting every oil change.

Performance wise, I've been impressed as well. I kept my compression ratio
the same at 8:1, and while there is not a "night and day" difference from
the stock heads, there is just enough that I can feel the engine spinning
with a little more power and "UMPH" than before. My rate of climb has
increased slightly as well.

Another thing I enjoy is the spark plug configuration: No longer do I have
to remove the whole valve cover to access the lower plugs such as on the
Revmaster heads.

Cooling is definitely one area that the head could be improved on; there
isn't a lot of room for airflow between the fins (Mark Langford, you
addressed this in your post about your VW engine). That said, CHT wise it
is no worse than my stock heads were. I average about 375-400F on
takeoff/climbout and about 325-350 in cruise (all within the Revmaster
limits). This was in the 90+F heat in Mississippi. My CHT probe is on the
head flange, not under the spark plug. In short, temperature wise, there
was no upgrade/downgrade when compared to stock.

I say this next segment with caution, as I realize I opened up a can of
worms, open for debate, but all in all, I feel the MOFOCO 041 heads are a
decent candidate for anybody who wants/has to replace their stock VW
heads. I don't know if they fare as well as the CB044s or the REV049s
(both of which I haven't operated), but for the price I paid and the slight
performance gain I've gotten, to me they are worth every penny. I paid
just under $800 (90.5/92mm, dual plugs, and shipping).

If you got this far, thank you for reading. I only posted this because I
have gotten the feeling there is some skepticism on MOFOCO in the VW
community. To those who have been curious or interested in their products,
so far I have had good results.
