Thanks for the kind words Luis! Yeah, I felt pretty dumb to realize I'd
gone all my life without knowing the difference between the two
categories.

More on the NEPO M44L.

Since it's not currently on Powerstride's website I ran the "equivalent
replacement" numbers listed on the battery casing. I found several but
discovered they may be equivalent in dimension but are not even close
when measuring Ah or CCA's. One company is even selling a battery with
the nomenclature M44L. It doesn't even look the same. Their battery has
cell caps on it which means it's not even an AGM and as for specs, they
weren't even listed.

I take that back on second thought. I found one under the "Duralast"
name that claims to have over 500 CCA's. That one bears looking into if
someone is looking for a high capacity lawn tractor sized battery..

Seems to me this particular battery (my NEPO M44L) also sometimes goes by
the name "Miata battery". I think that's what Powerstride called it and
for that reason (replacing the no longer available Panasonic that came
with the early Miatas) was importing it from Japan. Panasonic stopped
making that particular battery so among Miata owners replacement battery
discussions are a hot topic. I've looked at the batteries the Miata
people discuss on their forums and found none of them (there's only two I
think) come close to the specs of this M44L from NEPO. I'm sure however
that they're better than any lawn tractor battery from Sears or AutoZone.
I mention this because it might be handy to know that a "Miata battery"
(for the early Miatas) have the same dimensions as the lawn tractor type,
at least in width and depth. In height, the M44L is slightly taller than
the standard lawn tractor battery.

Here's some more pictures of my NEPO M44L.
