Hello O-200 Guys. Do I need a fuel pump if I only have a header tank?

I don't have a header tank at all and run 2 electric fuel pumps. However, here are some things to keep in mind.  I'm assuming you're running a Marvel Schebler carb.  If you end up installing a pump make sure to do the gravity fuel flow test with the pump installed and turned off.  If you do install a pump, make sure it is the very low pressure type, 3 to 5 pounds.  If you have a concern on pump pressure install a fuel pressure regulator and set to 3 1/2 to 4 pounds.  I think the carb has a limit of around 5 1/2 pounds without modification.  I have my pressure regulator set to 3 1/2 pounds.

You're looking for 150% of fuel burn at full power in the worst case situation, low fuel, nose high.  The 0-200 manual claims about 8 gph at 2750 rpm so shoot for 12 gph fuel flow in the test.  Test for six minutes and multiply by 10 to make it easy. If you can't get that with gravity it may require it be mandatory to run pump on t.o. and landing and other unusual attitudes.  Some simple test with tell you what's required.
