installing the main rear spar attach fittings, with very little torque, i
heard a 'crack'. The attached pictures tells the story. I've already
removed the spar and am rebuilding a new one. I don't want to just 'repair'
it. I believe the wood dried out too much, or the orientation of the grain
was the cause, or possibly the lamination should have been horizontal
instead of vertical. But you can see it split in the center and bowed up
the top surface. Just for reference--I use a stubby 1.5" long 3/8" ratchet
to prevent over-torquing. Your opinions are welcomed.
