This is just a personal opinion. It's worth what you're paying for it. I know that there are fuel flow sensors out there that are made of plastic, like inline fuel filters that are often used on cars, and they have the fuel lines connected to them by clamps. Personally, I would not use them in an aircraft.

My preference is for fuel flow sensors that are metal, with either threaded nipple or compression fittings connected to fuel lines that are either metal tube or flexible lines (preferably with metal mesh on the outside with compression fittings. My reasoning has to do with safety in a crash: Those types of materials, are much less likely to break or come apart and spill fuel that could feed a fire.
