Getting there a day or two before it officially opens and watching the planes come in is the best part of Oshkosh. It's also possible to get last minute camping in prime locations by getting there early. Some people don't show up for their reserved spaces plus there's always a few that have been "overlooked" in booking campsites and are available, especially if you brought something small - tent or very small trailer..
Besides these tips, take a folding bike. My 2 cents for those going next year or thereafter.
