Owen,

This bear has been poked in the past but has gone back in to hibernation for several years now.  I'm guessing that contributes to the lack of response you're getting on the subject.  No hate intended.

Just as Oshkosh would not be a good place for a family gathering (nobody pays attention to grandma, they're all playing ball) , the group decision years ago was to hold a Gathering outside Oshkosh for the diehard KR builders.  Oshkosh arrival scares off most KR flyers and the event is too overwhelming to concentrate on just one thing, building and flying a KR aircraft.  On a good year there may be three to five KR's to look at and question the builder and there is the KR forum that may have 30+ attend and ask questions of Mark Langford and other builders but that is just a flea on an elephant as far as KR's go.  The Gathering on the other hand is two to three days of concentrated exposure to KR's, some years as may as 20, with forums for builders and 200mph fly-bys to get your builder juices flowing and send you home enthused and ready to make sawdust.  Each event is a positive but to get the most info and exposure for a KR builder the Gathering is the place to be.

As for the vote, it was felt by the attendees that those making the effort to attend the event should be the ones to determine where the event will be held rather than take a vote on the net or other means.  Seems logical to me.  This years Gathering will be my 26th or 27th in the same number of years and , hopefully, my fifth time to Oshkosh with my KR.  Each event is special but different.  For a builder the Gathering is the place to be and Oshkosh is icing on the cake.  Attending both makes for a great year.

Hope to see you at both...............
