Steve Bennett was using NAPA semi-synthetic in my engine when I bought it
(and Ken Cottle's plane) from him in 2006. I've stuck with what Steve
was using and almost always use avgas instead of car gas. I've had no
issues. When I put new valves in I was amazed to find my guides were
like new, despite the lousy job Rimco had done in re-using valve springs,
etc.

Anyway . . . just my experience. I like the semi-synthetic because of
its ability to withstand higher temperatures without breaking down. On
those climb-outs in the middle of summer in Kansas the engine needs all
the cooling help it can get.
