Holy Cow . . . what a thing to happen, and what a great description. I wonder if the top of the wing can come off like that with the Diehl skins? Somehow they seem so solid looking and feeling that one would think they'd go 250 MPH - not that I would. These planes are strong and delicate at the same time. I think I'd stick to Rand's Never Exceed speed of 200 MPH. Something about diving and going really fast and doing low passes - Marty Roberts style - never appealed to me. I'll just poke along at 150, thank you.
That was quite something to read. I'll bet things like that happened a lot in the Twenties and Thirties, back when they were learning.
