> "the KR2, even widened and lengthened would not meet this need. not even close."
I don't see anything in the poster's requirements that cannot be met with the KR-2. George McHenry's plane with its IO-320, although set up for one person, could have easily met all of the requirements listed. Joe Horton, Larry Flesner, Jeff Scott and others routinely fly legs with their planes that meet the requirements. Lurker (Orson?) is stating he wants to put a "certified, fuel injection engine" and there's no reason I know of he can't build a KR around an IO-235 or 320 and have a plane that will easily meet the numbers he's looking for. As we know, I'm not a builder, so maybe some builders could state just why a KR is "not even close" to the numbers below? With just my little KR 1½ and a GP2180 I do 4+ hour legs at 149mph @ 11 - 14K. My plane is IFR, has a 24 cu.ft. O2 that allows me to cross the country in one day if I get up really, really early. Ken Rand used to do it frequently. My payload with full fuel (21 gallons) is only my weight (175) and baggage so I'm only carrying 220+ instead of the 350 specified, however a KR fully built out like McHenry's with an IO-235 or 320 should easily meet the requirements below. It seems to me someone calling the KR "not even close" hasn't given much thought to what he's saying. The KR can be as serious or as frivolous as the builder wants to make it. Mike KSEE Orson's Numbers Im 510 at 220lbs, wife is 57 at 130 We would like: a cross country plane for 3 to 5 hour legs fast climb rate and cruise speed; relatively high altitude operation; IFR; BRS; retractable, tail dragger or fixed tri gear is fine; able to utilize a certified fuel injection engine; decent glide ratio; hard to spin and correctable if happens, gentle positive dynamic stability ____________________________________________________________ The Unusual Link Between Alzheimer's and Coconut Oil (Watch) Memory Repair Protocol http://thirdpartyoffers.juno.com/TGL3141/59ee315b8f219315b7fdast03vuc _______________________________________________ Search the KRnet Archives at https://www.mail-archive.com/krnet@list.krnet.org/.
