2 years ago I bought the Asus ZenPad S 8.0 to replace my old ChartBook EFB.
Lighter, thinner, more visible in the cockpit and much more battery life. It
was also a move from Windows7 to Android.
I'm running Avare free software. It has a database & chart updater function
built into it. I can also run their ADS-B receiver software for put that
information on top of the moving map display. It gets the ADS-B data from a
"TV" receiver USB device that plugs into the USB port on the Asus. I've got
the whole thing mounted in a RAM mount with one of their clever universal 7"
tablet mounts and the spring-loading feature makes installing and removing
the tablet a 2 second effort. The RAM mount uses an old retractable gear
mounting hole in the main spar so my tablet is installed in just the same
spot as Larry's.
