I'm guessing that you're talking about the jacking method. I've improved on that a bit over the years. Looking at http://www.n56ml.com/gear/07091312m.jpg , imagine replacing the lower piece of wood (OSB, actually) with a quarter inch thick aluminum plate with a thick wall tube welded on, running straight down (vertical to the ground) a couple of inches. Then roll a common floor jack under the aluminum tube and jack it up. I did glue some silicone to both slabs of aluminum to give it some non-slip qualities. I'll try to get a photo of that in the next few weeks. I haven't been to the airport much...not much reason to visit with no cylinder heads on the VW! Revmaster finally called Thursday to say they were shipping them, so I should have them by the end of this week and be flying on Saturday.
But as far as jacking the whole plane up at one time, that's a dicey one...I was waiting to see what ideas others had on that one! You can use my method to do one leg at a time and then slide a ramp or platform under each tire, but there's still a high potential for toppling things, so support them well. I've had my share of collapses while changing tires, brakes, or greasing bearings, so don't think it can't happen.
In other news, I finally pulled the transponder out of my plane. It's an expensive Becker that fits in a 2.25" diameter instrument hole. I was forced into that when my half-width Terra transponder croaked after only a year of use, and it was one of the last available, and no other half-width transponders were available. The best solution for mounting a new transponder was to use an existing 2.25" diameter instrument hole. Then the half-width Terra radio went south with some weird incurable over-modulation problem that made transmissions unintelligible, so I installed a full size radio in N56ML. I was dreading pulling the transponder (which I moved from N56ML to N891JF) because I thought I'd have to pull the panel, which is a major pain in the KR2, but I decided with the plane down anyway, and OSH coming soon, it'd be nice to have so I could fly over Chicago's airspace rather than around it. Once I started, I had the transponder out in 10 minutes, and it's off to Becker tomorrow morning for repair, expected back by the weekend. At least this one's not terminally ill, and lasted a lot longer than the Terra did...
