I posted the HAPI instructions for that ignition to the VW Conversions user group some years ago. The documentation may help you. I think HAP!'s problems with the crankshafts got in the way of their ignition becoming popular. Magneto's were relatively cheaper then too. I ran a HAPI secondary with fixed timing on my 1835cc. Since it was 30 years old I replaced the electronics with DynaTek parts as a precaution but the system works fine.
