Subject: KR> Galls Wig Wag Flasher with Built in Switch
If you have two front landing lights on your KR, you may want one of these
flasher units to get extra attention for landing or flying in high traffic
areas.
It's for automobiles but we won't tell anyone if you add it to your airplane!!

I have been using this super light weight solid state unit for years.

They also have one with a built in switch if you prefer.

One caveat for this unit: I got the bright idea to install switches with LED
indicators in the switch so I could see at a glance which switches were on.
The LED indicator in the individual landing light switches created a ground
path that caused the FETs in this pricey little unit to immediately burst into
flames and continue to burn rather ferociously until all power was removed
(Master Off). I was able to resolve that issue by adding a 200 ohm resister to
the ground path for the LED indicator on the switches.

I switched to a relay type wig-wag while I diagnosed why I was burning up the
solid state units. When I saw a similar problem with the relay type (minus the
smoke and flames), I was able to come up with the fix of adding the resisters
to the LED indicators, which I found also worked well with the solid state
wig-wag. I still need to switch back to the light weight solid state wigwag in
the KR for the weight and space savings behind the panel, but did apply the
same fix to the solid state wig-wag in the SuperCub several years ago with no
issues.
