The engine is purring like the Corvair always does and the plane is in climb. I am hooked up with ATC, so I know that I will be cleared through any airspace and really just need to pay close attention to the radio so I don't miss any communications from them.
So, now to put the "Magic Carpet" into action, I recently gave the Black Bird a couple of little presents. One was to replace the experiment of the mirror motor trim servo with a Ray Allen and the other was a Dynon autopilot. Since I did not have much experience using this new feature of the Black Bird, I wanted to see what she would do with it. I knew, sort of, how to use the Heading and Altitude features, but so far, GPS Navigation had not been available. So, I went to the Bugs menu and set the Altitude to 4500 and as I was already following the GPS heading fairly well, told it to Sync the heading bug with the current heading. Then I just turned on the HDG and ALT function. Wala! Instant magic carpet. Nothing left to do but to enjoy the ride and monitor everything. The Black Bird was maintaining a heading of 278 and when she reached 4500 feet, leveled off and maintained that altitude. It seemed like magic. A KR2 flying itself, how is that possible?
