I have searched through our archives and found pieces on Nose wheel
wobble but do not see anything on a main wheel wobble. When I
purchased this project I knew that one of the main wheels wobbled a
bit but didn't give it thought. I just recently flipped the mains
around to the front of the spar for conversion to tail wheel setup and
gave the wheels a spin test. The right spins pretty true but the left
wobbles about 3/16" in and out from center line. To narrow down the
cause I switched the left and right wheels/tires/bearings. The problem
followed the wheel. This tells me that the axle is not the problem.
All of the main gear parts seem to have been purchased from Great
Planes back in 2008. The wheel is a 5" two piece and I do not know the
brand or manufacturer.
Any ideas of where I might take or send the wheel to check it? Has
anyone had any similar problem?
Could it possibly just need some balancing weights?
I think that I will move on to the stub wing building while trying to
figure this one out so that it doesn't hold up my progress.
